a.Introduction to Suzhou
Suzhou, formerly known as Wu and also known as Gusu, Pingjiang, etc., is a national historic and cultural city and scenic tourist city, a national hi-tech industrial base, one of the important central cities of the Yangtze river delta city cluster, a central city of G60 science and innovation corridor, and an important part of the Yangtze river economic belt in Jiangsu province.
Suzhou is a major city located in northeastern Jiangsu Province of East China, east of Shanghai, south of Jiaxing. The city is situated on the lower reaches of the Yangtze River and the shores of Lake Tai and belongs to the Yangtze River Delta region. Suzhou lies in temperature area.Its climate belongs to monsoon of subtropical moist marine climate zone, with distinct four seasons. Suzhou has a mild climate with plenty rainfall and has abundant production of rice, wheat, rape, cotton, silk, fruits, special products such as Biluochun Tea, longjaw grenadier ancho and Yangcheng Lake hairy crab.
Suzhou is one of the first 25 national historic and cultural cities in China, with a history of nearly 2500 years, and is the birthplace of the Wu Culture. Most people in Suzhou are from Jiangsu and Zhejiang province, speaking Wu language. Suzhou is famous for classic gardens, collectively a UNESCO world heritage site. In addition, the Suzhou section of China's grand canal has been inscribed on the World Heritage List.
In January 2016, Suzhou was named one of the first "national ecological garden cities" by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-rural Development”. In February 2016, Suzhou was rated as the first national all-around tourism demonstration area by the National Tourism Administration. In November 2017, the re-examination confirmed that the honorary title of national civilized city shall be retained. In January 2018, Suzhou was among the first batch of demonstration cities for the construction of social credit system. Suzhou was ranked the 8th of China’s top 100 cities in 2017.
b.Introduction to Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District.
Suzhou Science and Education Innovation District is located in the northeast corner of Suzhou Industrial Park, at the Dushu Lakeside, with pleasant environment and complete facilities.
Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District is the core project of the transformation and development of Suzhou Industrial Park, with 25 square kilometers planned area and a planned population of 400 thousand people (including about 100,000 students). It is committed to building a high-level industry-university-research cooperation system, focusing on the development of nanotechnology, biomedicine and cloud computing industries. The goal is to build a science and education collaborative innovation demonstration zone at the end of the 13th five-year plan, featuring high-tech industrial clusters, advanced education development, outstanding talent advantages, first class environmental functions and innovation system.
Since its construction in 2002, Suzhou Dushu Lake Science and Education Innovation District has preliminarily built a modern new urban area, integrating education, scientific research, emerging industries and living facilities, and explored a new development road led by high-end talents, featured by cooperative education and oriented by cooperative innovation. It has won the country’s first “international demonstration zone for higher education”, attracted 28 colleges and universities, one national research institution, with 78,500 students and 6,365 staff. There are 49 training institutions of various kinds, with a total training volume of about 40,000 person-times in 2016.Suzhou nanotechnology collaborative innovation center has been awarded the first batch of the “2011 plan” (Innovation Capacity Improvement Plan for Colleges and Universities); A total of 247 research and development institutions and platforms have been built in the region (including 38 at the provincial and ministerial level), 7 national-level incubators and 4 provincial-level incubators. There were 5197 new patent applications in 2016, of which about 66% were for invention patents.There are 38 academician workshops, post-doctoral research stations and mobile stations in the region. There are 1,542 high-level talents in the region, including 19 academicians and 115 members of the "thousand talents program". The number of returned oversea talents exceeds 1,700. More than 75% of the 60,000 employees have a bachelor's degree or above.
