Silk Road School Students Welcome The Year 2025 Together
On December 27, the student activity room of Silk Road School (SRS) was decorated and filled with a strong festive atmosphere. International students from Pakistan, Ethiopia, Brazil, Ghana, Russia, Sri Lanka, Zambia, Bangladesh, Kenya, Costa Rica, New Zealand, the United States, and Mexico gathered together to welcome the year 2025 full of hopes and dreams. Prof. Xiaoli Jiang, Deputy Dean of SRS, Can Yuan, Director of Finance Department, Song Lu, Deputy Dean of Smart Governance College, Wanxin Cheng, Director of Student Affairs Department, and Yiran Man, Chinese language teacher, attended the event.
The event started with a lot of laughter. Three students from Ghana played the piano, sang and danced, showing the unique charm of African culture with rhythmic music and cheerful singing, and the whole audience applauded and responded to them, the atmosphere was warm and extraordinary.
Afterwards, the teacher of SRS introduced the traditional Chinese Spring Festival customs to the international students in detail. From the reunion dinner on New Year's Eve to the various celebrations of the New Year, the teacher vividly explained the cultural significance and historical origin behind each custom, so that the international students had a deeper understanding and knowledge of Chinese traditional culture. In the process, led by the teacher, the Chinese and foreign teachers and students sang the classic song“Happy New Year”, which conveyed their good wishes for the New Year and infinite hopes for the future.
In order to let the international students experience Chinese New Year customs more deeply, the activity also set up a game session of “Who is the spy”. In the game, international students needed to understand and express traditional Chinese New Year customs such as “eating dumplings”, “eating Lantern Festival”, “putting up Spring Festival couplets”, “putting up window decorations”, etc., and find out the “spy” whose word was different from others. Through the games, the international students not only deepened their understanding of Chinese New Year customs, but also enhanced their communication and friendship with each other.
In the “Can't Do Challenge” game, each international student had a “can't do”thing that he or she didn't know about, and had to avoid doing the “can't do” thing himself or herself while guiding others to do their “can't do”thing. During the game, laughter and cheers rose and fell, and the SRS family shared the joy of the festival.
The activity came to an end with the joyful songs and dances of the international students. This New Year activity not only let the students feel the joy and bustle of Chinese New Year, but also enhanced their understanding and knowledge of Chinese traditional culture. In the coming days, they will continue to bring this joy and friendship and write a brand new chapter of civilization exchange and culture integration together.
