"Silk Road Tour" Field Trip to Yiwu: Visit the Small Commodity Capital of the World

During his visit to Renmin University of China on April 25 last year, President Xi Jinping told young students to measure the land of the China with their steps and encouraged international students to travel around China and have a deeper understanding of the real China so as to tell the world a good story about China. On March 23rd and 24th, Du Peng, Vice President of Renmin University of China and Dean of Silk Road School (SRS), led a group of teachers and students from SRS to visit Yiwu for a field trip, where they can experience the outstanding practices of local international trade, international e-commerce, international logistics and so on, and have a discussion with the Yiwu Municipal Government, helping students to have a deeper understanding of the institutional code behind the governance of China, and a more intuitive experience of China's development path, development model and development experience.

In those two days, SRS teachers and students have visited Yiwu International Trade City, JimingshanInternational IntegrationCommunity, International E-Commerce City, Yiwu Railway Port, Zhuoya Foreign Trade Company in Russia Maker Park, etc. During the trip,they witnessed Chinese modernization and high-quality development of private economy, business environment and foreign management, live broadcasting industry and cross-border e-commerce, "Belt and Road" trade and international logistics supporting, etc., and then understood the political, economic and cultural ecology of Yiwu from an all-round and multi-angle perspective, experienced the significance of private economy to Chinese modernization, and understood the connectivity and win-win cooperation advocated by the "Belt and Road" Initiative.

Jahongirfrom Tajikistan chatted with shop owners in Yiwu International Trade City and inquired about the corresponding prices in his own country. When he learned that the price of products in this trade city was only one-tenth of that in his home country, he sensed the unlimited business opportunities and understood why so many foreign businessmen had settled in Yiwu.

Ashutosh from India found that the mediation room of "Foreign Uncle" in Jimingshan International Integrationcommunity builds a bridge of communication for Chinese and foreign residents, and provide a variety of convenient and beneficial services for foreigners, the elderly and children.

Mercy from Ghana lingered in the live broadcast room of International E-CommerceCity and praised for the commercial value created by the live broadcast industry.

At the Yiwu Railway port, Sreyashi from India took a photo with the world map of the route of the "Yixineuru" China-Europe freight train, which has been praised by President Xi six times. She said excitedly, "This railway connecting the Eurasian continent is unprecedented, which is very conducive to uniting the countries along the route."

Anastasia from Russia was very excited at Zhuoya Foreign Trade Company founded by her Russian compatriots: "I am really happy to be here. Seeing Russians so successful and owning such a big company in Yiwu makes me more determined to engage in Sino-Russian trade."

At the end of the trip, the teachers and students had a symposium with Yiwu Municipal Government, Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, Commerce Bureau, Foreign Affairs Office, Exit and Entry Administration Bureau, representatives of enterprises and international students in Yiwu, who introduced the entrepreneurship and employment environment, business environment and foreign affairs management of international students in Yiwu.

Du Peng pointed out at the symposium that the President Xi's important speech during the recent two sessions fully demonstrated the CPC Central Committee's great attention to and deep feelings for the private economy, and marked the historical status and responsibility of the private economy in comprehensively promoting the new journey of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese-style modernization. Yiwu, as the "Capital of small commodities in the world" and the first place in the overall evaluation of "Business Environment of 10,000 Private Enterprises", has a lot of connotations for international students to explore and think about.

The international students spoke highly of this field trip and expressed their deep gratitude. They also expressed that they would consider to start their career in Yiwu in the future, taking advantage of the Belt and Road Initiative and realizing the mutual prosperity on an open and inclusive platform.
