Silk Road School Hosts a "Chinese Corner"

On the evening of December 13th, Silk Road School (SRS) hosted a "Chinese Corner" in the student’s activity room. The event was made extremely enriching as well as engaging with International students from all across the world, including Australia, Myanmar, Cambodia, Bangladesh, Georgia, Tajikistan, Ghana, Uganda, Liberia, Zambia among other countries all of whom participated in the event.The atmosphere was warm and students were in high spirits, the series of activities planned for the event lit up the cold winter evening with warmth and enthusiasm.
At the beginning of the activity, Professor Jiang Xiaoli, Deputy Dean of SRS, stressed the importance of learning Chinese to the international students and introduced a series of Chinese-related activities to be carried out by SRS. She encouraged students to participate actively to improving their Chinese language skills and get a further understanding of Chinese culture.
The speaker team of "Chinese Corner" was composed of master's students majoring in TCSOL. Starting from the common sentence patterns of self-introduction, they discusseda series of practical and interesting topics such as provinces, favorite food and so on. The atmosphere was lively and the students spoke enthusiastically.
Then, under the guidance of the teachers, students discussed freely on the topics such as "My impression of Suzhou", "Campus environment" and "Chinese learning", and get a further understanding of these topics while exercising their oral expression skills.
In the third part, the teachers explainedmodal complement in detail, and had various interactive Q&A with the students, helping students to understand the difference and usage of modal complement.
Finally, the students took part in the Chinese paper-cutting activity. In the vivid and interesting paper cutting created by themselves, the students not only experienced the fun of paper cutting,but also had a deeper understanding of Chinese traditional culture and distinctive folk customs.
All in all, the "Chinese Corner" activity provides a platform for Chinese and foreign students to practice language and exchange culture. In the future, SRS will continue to hold more Chinese interactive learning activities.
